Healthy Belly Mocha Protein Smoothie (dairy-free)

I do love a good smoothie, or an adult milkshake as I like to call them. They're a great way to incorporate easily-digestible fruits, veggies, fats and proteins in a diet that may otherwise be lacking. They can also help to boost healthy carb intake, which may be useful for very active people. All of this in addition to the fact that they taste delicious! But many recipes out there call for copious amounts of added sugars, which offset many of the nutritional benefits to be gained from a smoothie.

My Healthy Belly Mocha Protein Smoothie incorporates resistant starch and grass-fed gelatin, both of which are fantastic for improving gut health. It also packs 25g of protein, which is great for people who are working to increase their protein intake. Give this hearty smoothie a try for breakfast, or omit the full fat coconut milk and egg (subbing water and/or more green banana) and use it for post-workout recovery. Either way, I hope you love it!


3 TB full fat coconut milk

1/4 c water

4 ice cubes

1.5 green bananas, peeled and frozen

3/4 TB grass-fed gelatin

2 TB Dandy Blend

2 tsp Ceylon cinnamon

3/4 scoop Plant Fusion protein

1 egg yolk, raw and pastured (omit and replace with 1/4 scoop of Plant Fusion Protein if desired)

Pinch of pink salt


1. Combine all ingredients in Vitamix or other high-powered blender. Optional step: leave out egg initially and stir in by hand only once other ingredients are blended. This is done in order to preserve structural integrity of egg.

2. Serve as-is, or top with nuts or granola as pictured (mine includes Fit Grub granola).
